Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has denied reports claiming he was rejected by the Mexican government, saying his delayed resumption is due to the country’s involvement in hosting the FIFA World Cup alongside the United States.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, the former presidential aide described the speculation surrounding his diplomatic posting as unfounded and driven by political opponents

He explained that the global sporting event has slowed down some diplomatic processes, including the reception of foreign envoys, stressing that he is not the only ambassador-designate yet to assume office.
“Mexico has not rejected me. Not at all. You should understand that Mexico is currently hosting the World Cup alongside the United States of America, and all their focus is on that,” Omokri said.
Omokri insisted that claims of his rejection by Mexico have no basis in fact and should be viewed as political propaganda.
“Most of us ambassadors have not resumed. So, I’m not the only one. A lot of my colleagues are in my situation, but it’s okay. These things happen,” he stated.
“The opposition will always say things like I have been rejected. We do not work on the basis of the opposition. We work on the basis of reality,” he added.
According to him, Nigeria enjoys cordial diplomatic relations with countries around the world, and its accredited representatives will be received in due course.
