St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, Anambra State, has brought pride to Nigeria by emerging as the overall winner of the maiden UK-Nigeria Debate Competition

Held virtually on June 19, 2025, the competition featured top-performing schools from both Nigeria and the United Kingdom. Representing Nigeria were Britarch Schools and Sure Start School, both in Abuja, St. Augustine’s College in Jos, and St. John Vianney Science College. Competing from the UK were Central Foundation Girls’ School, Maghull High School, and Shireland High School.

After several rigorous rounds, St. John Vianney Science College advanced to the finals, defeating UK schools Maghull High School and Central Foundation Girls’ School with sharp arguments and confident delivery.

The final showdown was an all-Nigerian affair between St. John Vianney and St. Augustine’s College. In a closely contested debate, the Anambra-based school emerged victorious, securing their place in history as the first-ever champions of the UK-Nigeria Debate Competition.
