The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has set the price for nomination forms for local government chairmanship elections at N30 million, a figure higher than the total official earnings of a chairman over a full four-year ter.
The announcement was made by APC State Chairman Stanley Okoro Emegha following a closed-door meeting with party officials in Abakaliki. The meeting brought together the state’s 13 Local Government Chairmen and 171 ward executives to brief party leaders on upcoming programs and coordinate activities across all levels.

The hefty fee immediately drew attention, particularly after Osborn Umahi, son of Minister of Works Dave Umahi, reportedly purchased the form for Ohaozara Local Government Area, drawing supporters to the party secretariat.
According to data from the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), local government chairmen earn about N3.5 million in salary and N2.7 million in allowances annually, totaling roughly N25.2 million over a four-year term—less than the cost of the APC nomination form.
The development has sparked concerns over the affordability of political participation and highlights broader criticisms of high-cost politics in Nigeria, where aspirants often depend on personal wealth or external backing to contest elective offices.
