Asake parts ways with Olamide’s YBNL music

The separation follows the expiration of his contract with the label a few months ago, shortly after the release of his acclaimed album, Lungu

YBNL founder Olamide has confirmed the amicable split, allowing Asake to retain full ownership of his master recordings.

Although Asake will no longer be affiliated with YBNL, a royalty-sharing agreement will remain in effect for the next 10 years, as per the original contract. Olamide expressed his support for Asake’s decision, stating, “I created YBNL to help young artists grow, not to make money. If anyone wants to leave, they’re free to do so.”

Asake reportedly declined Olamide’s offer to renew his contract, opting instead for independence.

The final negotiations broke down two weeks ago, leading Asake to remove all YBNL affiliations from his social media and unfollow Olamide.

Asake’s departure marks the end of a successful partnership with YBNL, which saw him achieve remarkable milestones, including selling out London’s O2 Arena twice. He is now set to embark on a new chapter as an independent artist.
