Twenty-two-year-old college basketball player Deng Mayar has d!ed in a drowning incident at Blackridge Reservoir in Herriman, Utah
Reports indicate that Mayar was swimming with a friend, Sa Mafutaga, when the tragedy occurred. Mafutaga managed to reach the shore with assistance from bystanders and attempted to save Mayar, but his efforts were unsuccessful.
Authorities launched an extensive search for Mayar, ultimately deploying a submersible robot that recovered his body around 11:00 p.m.
Before his untimely death, Mayar played for the University of North Dakota’s men’s basketball team, the Fighting Hawks, before transferring in April 2025 to the University of Nebraska Omaha to join the Omaha Mavericks.
