Bournemouth 2 v 1 Manchester City: Bournemouth breaks Man City's unbeaten run in the league

Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson found the net as Bournemouth claimed their first-ever victory over Manchester City at the Vitality Stadium

The Cherries, buoyed by recent performances against Aston Villa and Arsenal, started on the front foot. Within two minutes, Ederson had to make a double save to deny Semenyo and Justin Kluivert.

Bournemouth’s aggressive press paid off in the ninth minute when Milos Kerkez’s byline cut-back was converted by Semenyo, giving the hosts an early lead. City struggled to respond, failing to record a shot on target in a frustrating first half.

Returning from the break with confidence, Bournemouth almost doubled their lead immediately, but Ederson reacted quickly to block Evanilson’s effort. Evanilson soon made amends, however, slotting Kerkez’s low cross into the bottom corner.

Bournemouth could have added a third, but Adam Smith missed an open goal after Marcus Tavernier’s shot struck the post. City’s first shot on target came in the 80th minute when Erling Haaland’s tame volley was easily saved.

Josko Gvardiol’s header two minutes later brought City back into contention, but they couldn’t find an equalizer. With Liverpool beating Brighton, City slipped to second, while Bournemouth moved up to eighth in the Premier League table.
