Mauricio Pochettino has parted ways with Chelsea by mutual consent following a series of meetings with club officials
The decision was made after a thorough end-of-season review, which concluded on Tuesday morning.
The departure is reportedly amicable, with Pochettino leaving after just one year of his two-year contract, which he signed last summer.
He is set to receive a significant compensation fee.
During his tenure, Pochettino led Chelsea to European qualification, securing a top-seven finish in the Premier League, and also took the club to the final of the Carabao Cup and the semi-final of the FA Cup.
However, the club’s season was deemed disappointing by key figures at Stamford Bridge, with unmet pre-season expectations and a crippling injury list cited as major issues.
Pochettino’s departure makes him the third permanent head coach to lose his job under the Clearlake Capital-Boehly ownership, following Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter. Additionally, Bruno Saltor managed the team for one game last season, and Frank Lampard took interim charge, meaning a total of five managers have worked under the current ownership in just two years.
Chelsea will now seek a young and progressive coach to replace Pochettino, with potential candidates including Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness, Girona’s Michel, Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, who has been linked with Brighton, and Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca.
The club’s search for a new manager begins immediately, as they look to build on Pochettino’s foundation and take the team to the next level.
