Minister of Health, Professor Ali Pate, informed journalists on Friday that the suspension was agreed upon after a closed-door meeting with NANNM leaders.

According to Professor Pate, the move came as a result of reaching consensus between the Federal Government and union representatives, although the association’s officials refrained from commenting on the specifics of the agreement.

NANNM had initiated a seven-day warning strike on July 29, 2025, claiming that the government had not responded to a 15-day ultimatum issued on July 14.

The strike, which was set to conclude on August 5, 2025, stemmed from persistent grievances over poor welfare conditions, inadequate working conditions, and what union leaders described as the government’s failure to meet their demands.

The nurses had been calling for improved welfare packages, fair allowances, and enhanced working environments within federal health institutions.

Previously, the association’s National Chairman, Morakinyo Rilwan, had criticized the government for its lack of meaningful engagement during the ultimatum period. As of now, the detailed terms of the agreement that prompted the suspension remain unverified.
