A multi-storey building under construction on Oremeta Street in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State collapsed on Saturday morning, trapping an unknown number of people beneath the rubble
The building also housed the popular EqualRight Restaurant.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 8 a.m., catching both occupants and passersby off guard.
Speaking anonymously to PUNCH Online, one eyewitness described the structure as a disaster waiting to happen.
“Anyone who knows that building should know it was a bomb waiting to explode. I hardly go there to buy food because I was always scared the building would collapse while I’m there,” the source said.
While the exact number of victims trapped remains unclear, emergency responders have already commenced rescue operations.
Operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) were seen at the scene, leading efforts to search through the debris as other government agencies were expected to join in.
Meanwhile, a crowd of anxious residents and onlookers has gathered nearby, hoping for news on those still trapped inside.
