Nigerian music stars, Burna Boy, Tems and Ayra Starr brought powerful Afrocentric flair to the 2025 Met Gala red carpet
Themed “The Garden of Time,” this year’s event also celebrated the influence of Black style and craftsmanship through the accompanying exhibit, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
Burna Boy Channels Regal Power

Burna Boy made a dramatic entrance in a deep burgundy patterned suit, styled with a bold yellow shirt and a burgundy tie. Draped over his shoulders was a glossy burgundy trench-style cape that added a commanding, superhero-inspired edge to his look.

He finished off the ensemble with round sunglasses and matching burgundy shoes. The outfit, designed by Boateng, drew inspiration from Burna’s Nigerian roots and the symbolism of Black royalty and strength.
Tems Embraces Theatrical Elegance

Tems wowed in a voluminous, peacock-inspired blue dress that turned heads on the red carpet. The gown featured a fitted bodice, a dramatic flared skirt, and a large matching bow at the neck
She accessorized with a bold statement ring, a green umbrella with coordinating peacock-feather patterns, and a matching headpiece that elevated the entire look.

The ensemble paid tribute to Black dandyism and Boateng’s 2019 womenswear debut at the Apollo Theater.
Ayra Starr Delivers Edgy Sophistication

Ayra Starr brought modern elegance in a sleek black gown with a daring open-back design. The dress featured a sheer panel across the back, electric blue lining, and stylish sleeve cutouts.

Bright blue nails matched the gown’s inner detailing, while statement earrings, rings, and a chic pixie haircut completed her striking look. Her appearance marked a standout moment for the rising Afro-pop star.
Their presence at the Met Gala not only celebrated Nigerian excellence but also highlighted the global rise of African influence in fashion, culture, and music.
