The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed new sanctions on the Libya Football Federation (LFF).
These sanctions include a $20,000 fine and a requirement to play the next two matches behind closed doors due to a separate incident.
These penalties follow Libya’s appeal against an earlier decision by CAF, which awarded Nigeria three points and three goals after an incident at the airport involving the Nigerian team in Libya.
Originally, the Super Eagles were set to face Libya at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi on October 15 for the AFCON qualification series.
However, when the Nigerian team’s flight landed at Al Abaq airport, they were held “hostage” for over 20 hours without food or drinks.
As a result, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced the Super Eagles’ withdrawal from the qualifying match and instructed them to return home.
CAF determined that Libya had violated several regulations regarding the Nigerian team’s arrival, resulting in a forfeited match and a $50,000 fine.
Libya then appealed the ruling, seeking to overturn the victory given to Nigeria.
While trying to appeal CAF’s decision in favor of Nigeria, Libya’s football organization received additional penalties.
A different Libyan team was fined $20,000 and ordered to play their next two matches behind closed doors due to violent incidents during a recent game.
