The Canadian High Commission in Nigeria has awarded EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede a Certificate of Recognition for his outstanding efforts in fighting transnational crime
The honor was presented on May 21, 2025, during a ceremony in Abuja led by Canadian High Commissioner Pasquale Salvaggio.
Salvaggio commended Olukoyede’s leadership in addressing a range of cross-border crimes, including financial fraud, vehicle trafficking, online exploitation, and drug smuggling. He praised the EFCC’s key role in international enforcement operations, particularly highlighting “Operation Hot Wheels”—a successful joint initiative with the Nigeria Customs Service that dismantled a major vehicle trafficking syndicate.
The High Commissioner noted that since the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) opened its liaison office in Nigeria in 2021, collaboration with the EFCC has yielded tangible results in asset recovery, financial restitution, and coordinated investigations.
“Your tireless efforts in combating transnational crime, financial fraud, vehicle trafficking, online exploitation, and drug smuggling have been instrumental in strengthening security and justice across our borders,” Salvaggio said.
He added that the growing partnership between Canada and Nigeria reflects the borderless nature of crime and the shared responsibility of nations to protect communities.
“These collective efforts underscore a simple truth: crime knows no borders, and neither should our pursuit of justice,” Salvaggio stated. “Canada deeply values its law enforcement partnerships with Nigeria and looks forward to deepening these collaborations to enhance global security, protect victims, and dismantle criminal enterprises that threaten our economies and communities.”
