Two Canadian men, Richard Beauvais and Eddy Ambrose who were switched at birth nearly 70 years ago have received a formal apology from Manitoba’s Premier for the mix-up

Richard, from Sechelt, British Columbia, grew up believing he was indigenous until a DNA test revealed his true ancestry. Meanwhile, Eddy’s sister’s DNA test revealed that Richard was her biological brother, uncovering the mix-up that occurred at a Manitoba hospital in 1955.
After decades of leading contrasting lives, Richard and Eddy received a formal apology from Manitoba’s Premier, Wab Kinew, acknowledging the trauma caused by the switch.
Despite the hardships faced, both men are proud of their identities and families, including their newfound biological connections.
Legal representation is sought to request an apology and financial compensation from the province of Manitoba. While the outcome remains uncertain, the apology marks a significant step towards closure for Richard, Eddy, and their families.
