Chelsea secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Newcastle at Stamford Bridge, thanks to Cole Palmer’s influential performance
Palmer scored the winning goal just after halftime and provided an exceptional pass for Nicolas Jackson’s opener. Alexander Isak equalized for Newcastle before the break, but Chelsea regained the lead.
The win moves Chelsea into the top four, while Newcastle remains 12th and winless in five Premier League matches.
Chelsea thought they scored early, but Palmer’s goal was ruled out by VAR. However, they kept the pressure on and got their reward after 18 minutes. Palmer set up a blistering counter-attack with an outstanding pass to Pedro Neto, who squared for Jackson to side-foot home.
Chelsea were well on top but were made to pay before the break when Isak tapped home from close range. The goal stood after a VAR check.
Chelsea restored their lead just 75 seconds after the restart. Palmer sprinted into the box and lashed a low shot past Nick Pope. Newcastle struggled to get their bearings in the second half but should have equalized again when Isak shrugged off Fofana and rounded Sanchez.
In a frenetic end to the game, Chelsea thought they had a penalty after Dan Burn dragged down substitute Christopher Nkunku, but the award was overturned by VAR.
Palmer’s standout display earned Chelsea three crucial points.
