The Federal High Court in Abuja has found suspended Kogi Central lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, guilty of contempt of court and imposed a N5 million fine on her

Justice Binta Nyako, who delivered the ruling on Friday, held that the senator violated a standing gag order by publishing a satirical apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on her Facebook page on April 7. The court said the post mocked its earlier directive that barred all parties from making public comments on the ongoing case.
As a consequence of the contempt, the court directed Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to issue a formal apology within seven days—both on her Facebook page and in two national newspapers.
While the contempt proceedings were initiated by Senator Akpabio, the court declined to grant any additional reliefs in his favor, emphasizing instead the need to uphold the sanctity of its orders.
The court also clarified that the contempt was in a civil proceeding, not a criminal one.
Meanwhile, Justice Nyako is also expected to deliver a judgment on a separate suit filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan, in which she is challenging her six-month suspension from the Senate.
