A court in Ikeja, Lagos has sent a 55-year-old man named Pius Promise to jail while he waits for his trial.
He is accused of sexually abusing his daughter for many years.
The police have charged Promise with defilement, which means having sex with a child.
The judge, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, didn’t let Promise enter a plea. Instead, she told the police to send the case details to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice. The case will continue on August 7.
The prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, told the court that Promise allegedly abused his daughter from 2015 to 2022 in Ojo, Lagos. He said Promise had been doing this since his daughter was young, and she only recently felt brave enough to tell someone.
Iberedem said, “The defendant sexually penetrated the girl by inserting an egg inside her vagina and fingering her as well. He also sexually assaulted his daughter by sucking her breast and vagina.”
