A Vice Chairman of a local government area in Ekiti State, Grace Ogunleye, has been ordered to remain in prison custody after being accused of f@king her own kidnapping in what authorities believe was an attempt to raise money.
Grace, who serves as the Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area, was brought before a Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti where she faced allegations linked to a reported a.bduction that later turned suspicious during investigation.
She was declared missing on May 20, 2026, after her vehicle was discovered abandoned, an incident that initially triggered a search operation before later raising suspicion during investigation.
What initially looked like a genuine k!dnapping case, however, later took a different turn as detectives began to question the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
Investigators reportedly concluded that the incident may have been staged, with claims that it was arranged to generate funds for political and personal needs.
Following her appearance in court, the magistrate ordered that she be held at the correctional facility in Ado-Ekiti while the case file is sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal review and advice.
The matter has continued to draw public attention in the state, especially given the resources and urgency that were initially committed to her reported rescue.
The case is expected to proceed as authorities further examine the allegations.
