In her ruling on Thursday, Justice Hannah Ajayi found Bello guilty of luring the victim to his home under false pretenses, murdering her, and dismembering her body for ritual purposes. She described the act as “cruel, wicked, and a shocking display of inhumanity.”

Bello had claimed he loved Hafsoh and intended to marry her, but the court dismissed his statement as a calculated lie to gain her trust and lure her into a trap.

The crime occurred on February 10, 2025, in the Olunlade area of Ilorin. After engaging in sex with the victim, Bello reportedly killed her and dismembered her body in his room. During his arrest, police found disturbing evidence in his possession, including the victim’s severed palm, a bottle filled with blood, and personal items belonging to her. A cutlass used in the gruesome act was also recovered, while other parts of her decomposed body were later discovered at a nearby dumpsite.

Four other defendants—Ahmed Abdulwasiu, Jamiu Uthman, Suleiman Muyideen, and Abdulrahman Jamiu—who were initially charged alongside Bello, were cleared of all allegations and discharged by the court.

Justice Ajayi ruled that there was no evidence linking them to the murder and declared them not guilty.
