President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi, whose tenure was originally set to end on August 31, 2025

The announcement was made on Thursday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, who said the extension will allow Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete key initiatives of the current administration.
According to Onanuga, the reforms include the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
He added that President Tinubu acknowledges Adeniyi’s strong leadership and dedication to service, stating,
“The President is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.”
Adeniyi was officially appointed as Comptroller-General in October 2023 after initially serving in an acting capacity following the departure of former CG Hameed Ali in June 2023.
