Skit maker Zicsaloma has advised people who start making good money to be careful about the friends and family members they keep close, especially those who constantly depend on them financially.
According to him, becoming successful can sometimes change the way people around you relate to you. Some friends or relatives may begin to see your income as something they are also entitled to, simply because they knew you before things got better.
He said some people who ask for financial help do not always use the money wisely. They spend what they receive and soon return with another request, turning the relationship into a cycle of dependence.
Zicsaloma also pointed out that earning money legitimately does not mean all of it is available to be shared.
Sharing his thoughts in a recent post, he said:
“Money earned through legitimate means is not necessarily money available for sharing”.
He explained that people who are doing well financially still have responsibilities to take care of. They may need to put money back into their businesses, invest, save for the future and make plans for unexpected expenses.
For him, there is nothing wrong with helping people when you can, but constantly carrying people who refuse to become responsible can eventually affect your own finances.
“Cut off some friends and family when you start earning well, and becoming financially secured. You need to protect your finances”, he stated.
He advised people to recognise relationships that are becoming a financial burden and set boundaries before their generosity starts putting them back in the same difficult position they worked hard to escape.
