Dangote Group reacts to de.ath of Phyna’s sister

The Dangote Group has expressed sorrow over the de.ath of Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, who passed away after being hospitalized from injuries sustained in an accident involving one of the company’s trucks in Auchi, Edo State

In an official statement issued on August 31, 2025, the company said:

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ruth Otabor, who was injured in the recent road incident involving one of our trucks in Auchi, Edo State. On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time.

Since the accident, our officials and insurance partners have been by her side, covering all financial and medical costs and supporting her family. Arrangements had been made for her to be flown to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance from her doctors. Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today.

At Dangote Group, safety, accountability, and compassion remain at the core of our operations. We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting those affected in moments of tragedy. May God grant her mercy and eternal rest.

Ruth Otabor’s de..ath was earlier confirmed by the family’s legal representatives, who revealed that she passed away in the early hours of Sunday following complications from her injuries.

She had undergone amputation after the crash.

  1. And here it ends, no one is brought forward for justice, no punishment for bad behaviour in this country, hence everything is in a grand mess. What is happening to the driver and what is happening to the transport department of the company? Another soul lost to recklessness and impunity

  2. Its how companies protect their drivers from justice, that makes them go on to commit more atrocities. If they know they won’t be protected, abet, they will be more careful on the road.
