David Coote fired after investigation into misconduct

David Coote was initially suspended on November 11 pending a full investigation.

The investigation was sparked by a video circulating on social media, allegedly showing Coote making derogatory comments about Liverpool and its former manager Jurgen Klopp. Further allegations emerged after the publication of photos, purportedly taken during the European Championship, which appeared to show Coote engaging in illicit behavior.

The PGMOL concluded that Coote’s actions were in serious breach of his employment contract, rendering his position “untenable.” While acknowledging the need to support Coote’s welfare, the PGMOL emphasized that his conduct was unacceptable.

Coote has the right to appeal the decision, and the Football Association is also investigating separate allegations that Coote discussed issuing a yellow card before a 2019 Championship match. Coote has denied any wrongdoing, calling the allegations “false and defamatory.”
