Davido says his first celebrity scandal came just a few months after he became famous, and it left him completely shaken.
Speaking during Vibe Podcast, the singer recalled how quickly fame came after his breakout songs and how unprepared he was for the attention that followed.
He said the scandal started during an early trip to Ghana. According to him, a woman wanted to prove she was with him after people doubted her claim, so she took a photo while he was asleep. The image eventually surfaced online, turning what he thought was a private moment into his first public scandal.
“Apparently she was telling people like, ‘oh, I’m with Davido.’ They’re like, ‘no, you’re lying.’ And then she took the picture”, he stated
The backlash came almost immediately, with calls pouring in from his family after the photo spread.
“My daddy was calling me. My sisters were calling me.
If I saw balcony that day, I would have júmped. I was going crazy”, he said.
Looking back, Davido said the experience taught him a hard lesson about fame and the people around him. He admitted he was still young at the time and believes the incident changed the way he approached life in the spotlight.
“I was young and I liked women too much. God had to show me, trust me, God had to show me at the time. You’re young, you’re famous, you’re a target. Even if you want to have fun, take their phones”, he said.
