Davido, a Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star, has once again proven his skill at making hit songs.
He recently joined the remix of “Ogechi,” a song that was already popular on TikTok.
After Davido’s involvement, the “Ogechi” remix reached number one on the TurnTable Nigeria Top 100 chart for the week of June 28 – July 4, 2024. The remix was released on June 26, just a day after Davido’s widely-discussed wedding.
The song, by Brown Joel, Boypee, and Hyce featuring Davido, was both the most streamed song and the most played song on radio that week. It had 6.76 million on-demand streams and was played 49.3 million times on radio.
“Ogechi” remix beat out songs by other big names in Nigerian music. Burna Boy’s “Higher” came in second, while Olamide’s “Metaverse” jumped up to third place.
This success marks Davido’s second number one hit of 2024, following his appearance on Kizz Daniel’s “Twe Twe” remix. It reinforces Davido’s position as one of the most successful hitmakers in Afrobeats, a status he’s held for over a decade.
