Dean Huijsen’s transfer to Real Madrid has been officially confirmed, with the Spanish giants activating the defender’s £50 million (€58 million) release clause from Bournemouth
The highly-rated 20-year-old has completed his medical and is expected to sign a five-year contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until 2030.
Despite receiving more lucrative offers from Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal — as well as Bayern Munich — Huijsen prioritized a move to Madrid, describing it as his “dream destination.”
His decision was reportedly influenced by the club’s vision and the arrival of incoming manager Xabi Alonso, who views Huijsen as a key part of Real’s future defensive core.
Bournemouth has agreed to release Huijsen early, allowing him to link up with Madrid ahead of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. The move comes at a crucial time for the La Liga champions, who are currently dealing with injuries to senior defenders like David Alaba, Éder Militão, and Antonio Rüdiger.
Huijsen, born in the Netherlands and now a Spanish international, has enjoyed a rapid rise through the ranks. After youth stints at Málaga and Juventus, he had a loan spell at Roma and joined Bournemouth in 2024. His standout performances in the Premier League and recent debut for Spain’s senior team have cemented his status as one of Europe’s brightest young talents.
His unveiling at Real Madrid is expected in the coming days, as the club continues to invest in the next generation of stars.
