According to the Finnish Prosecution Authority, the alleged offenses occurred between 2021 and 2024 in Lahti, Finland.

Ekpa is accused of using social media platforms to incite violence and promote attacks in southeastern Nigeria as part of his campaign for the creation of an independent Biafran state.

Ekpa, a prominent figure associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been in Finnish custody since November 2024. Investigators say his activities contributed to unrest in Nigeria, including violent attacks on civilians and law enforcement.

The Finnish National Bureau of Investigation has also frozen several of his assets and those linked to his network.

He is scheduled to appear in court in June 2025. Despite the gravity of the charges, Nigerian authorities have confirmed that there is no active extradition request for Ekpa at this time.

Ekpa’s case has drawn international attention, with critics and supporters closely following developments. Finnish prosecutors have stressed that the charges are based on Finnish law and evidence gathered in an extensive investigation.
