In a deeply emotional video, human rights activist Dele Farotimi was seen breaking down in tears as he reflected on his recent arrest and the overwhelming support he received from Nigerians across the country
Dele Farotimi, who was detained following a defamation case filed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Afe Babalola, spoke with deep emotion about how the collective voice of Nigerians helped secure his release.
He tearfully shared, “We stop being humans because we became Nigerians. Nigerians overlooked my ethnicity, my religion, and spoke for me.” His words revealed the profound impact of the solidarity shown by Nigerians from all walks of life, transcending the usual divides of ethnicity and religion.
Farotimi went on to say, “Nigeria couldn’t happen to me because people spoke for me.” He credited the support and advocacy of the people as the reason he was able to escape a system that often punishes those who stand up for justice.
Dele Farotimi was in tears earlier this morning narrating how the collective voice of Nigerians who spoke up for him saved his life. This video is too emotional 💔
