Delta Governor's Aide, Shimite Bello reportedly k!lled by husband

Chief (Mrs.) Shimite Winifred Bello, Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Trade and Export, has reportedly d!ed under tragic circumstances allegedly linked to domestic violence

Though details surrounding her death remain unclear at the time of filing this report, the incident has been confirmed by multiple sources, including Harrison Gwamnishu, a human rights activist and aide to the Delta State Governor. In a Facebook post on Monday, April 21, 2025, Gwamnishu shared the sad news of her passing.

Another Delta-based activist, Comrade Victor Ojie, popularly known as Wong Box, also confirmed the development, writing: “Marriage is not by force oh. It’s better to lose your marriage than to lose your life oh.”

A Facebook user, Hon. Oge Okonkwo, alleged that Shimite’s husband has been arrested in connection with her d8ath. Her personal aide, Tameta Sunday, also accused her husband of being responsible for the tragedy.

“It’s very difficult to type RIP boss, knowing fully well an ugly soul called pastor with a gentle look as a husband cut all the positive plans we had together,” Sunday wrote.

Shimite Bello was a well-known trade and economic expert. She coordinated the Delta State UNIDO Centre and played a leading role in the implementation of the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme in the state. She also created and hosted “African Pot,” a TV documentary that showcased traditional African cuisine, tourism, and culture.

She served on the Steering Committee of the USAID/NEXTT (Nigerian Expanded Trade and Transport) – Lakaji Trade Corridor and was a board member of the Foundation for Economic Change in Africa (FESECA). Bello also contributed as an editor on travel and tourism for publications like Daily Trust and Leadership.

Her d8ath has sparked widespread reactions, with many calling for stronger advocacy against domestic violence and urging women in abusive relationships to seek help or leave such unions.
