Doris Ogala's arraignment stalls again

The arraignment of Nollywood actress Doris Ogala before the Federal High Court in Lagos over allegations of cyberstalking, cyberbullying and attempted extortion involving Chris Okafor was once again postponed on Tuesday after she failed to appear in court, citing health challenges.

The case marks the second consecutive occasion Ogala has been absent for her scheduled arraignment on charges brought by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions of the Federation.

When the matter first came before Justice Akintayo Aluko on April 24, 2026, her former lawyer, Temiloluwa Akindayini, informed the court that the actress had recently undergone surgery and was unable to attend. The court was assured that she would be present at the next hearing.

However, at Tuesday’s proceedings, Ogala was again absent. Defence counsel N.C. Atulomah told the court that his client was receiving medical care at a Federal Medical Centre. He explained that two affidavits had been filed in support of an application seeking an adjournment and maintained that postponing the matter would not prejudice the prosecution.

Atulomah further assured the court that Ogala would attend the next sitting and appealed for the request to be granted.

Prosecuting counsel Tolulope Mokolu said he would reluctantly agree to the adjournment but raised concerns over the medical report tendered by the defence. According to him, the document showed that the actress had already been discharged from the hospital and was undergoing treatment as an outpatient.

Mokolu also questioned the claim that Ogala’s health prevented her from attending court, noting that she recently contested in her party’s primary election, actively campaigned, won the contest and celebrated the victory afterward.

“I am reluctantly acceding to the counsel’s plea for adjournment in view of what I am seeing for the first time. However, if by the next adjourned date she is not in court, I will be asking for a bench warrant,” Mokolu said.

After hearing arguments from both sides, Justice Aluko adjourned the case until October 28, 2026, for Ogala’s arraignment.
