The fire erupted in the Masquerade club located in the basement of a high-rise building in Istanbul, which was closed for renovations at the time.

Authorities, including Istanbul governor Davut Gül, are investigating the cause of the fire, which started shortly after midday.

Initial reports suggest that the victims were involved in the renovation work being conducted at the nightclub.

Warrants have been issued for the arrest of eight individuals, including the nightclub manager and a person overseeing the renovations, as part of the ongoing investigation.

Emergency responders, including firefighters, swiftly arrived at the scene, where the charred and smoke-filled club entrance posed a harrowing sight.

The d3ath toll has steadily risen throughout the day, prompting updates from the governor’s office.

Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu revealed that the club had not obtained the necessary construction permit for the renovation work.

Condolences have poured in from officials, including Mayor Imamoglu, who expressed sympathy for the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured via social media platforms like X.
