The Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended a fugitive connected to the Ansaru terrorist group and the infamous 2022 Kuje Correctional Centre jailbreak in Abuja, security sources confirmed Thursday
The suspect, Abdulaziz Obadaki, reportedly played a key role in planning the jailbreak that saw hundreds of inmates escape, according to intelligence briefings.

Obadaki, who had been arrested previously but managed to evade justice, is said to have been a high-ranking Ansaru operative responsible for coordinating sleeper cell activities across Nigeria and facilitating the escape of terror suspects.
The Kuje Correctional Centre attack in July 2022 led to the release of 879 inmates, many of whom were considered high-profile terror suspects.
The DSS hailed Obadaki’s recapture as a major breakthrough in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts, noting that it would aid ongoing prosecutions under terrorism laws.
Further details about the arrest and any upcoming arraignment have not yet been disclosed by the agency.
