The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is poised to introduce a single currency, known as ECO, after receiving Nigeria’s endorsement
This initiative aims to stimulate economic growth and development across the West African sub-region.
The ECO will also be featured on the upcoming three-in-one identity card, scheduled for release in August by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
During the 92nd Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers in Abuja, Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors from the 15 member states finalized the modalities for the single currency’s introduction.

The launch of ECO is expected to significantly promote economic integration, facilitate trade, and enhance monetary stability within the region.
