Also removed were Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian, the Majority Leader, and Hon. Yekini Idaiye, who served as Chief Whip—all members of the PDP. However, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku and Hon. Maria Edeko, both also from the PDP, retained their positions as Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively.

According to Daily Trust, the leadership shake-up followed a letter from the state’s acting All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman, Jarret Tenebe. The letter noted that the PDP had lost its majority status in the House after four of its lawmakers defected to the APC.

Announcing the changes, Speaker Agbebaku said the new appointments include Hon. Ibhamawu Jonathan Aigbokhan (APC, Esan West) as Majority Leader, Hon. Addeh Emakhu Isibor (APC, Esan North-East I) as Deputy Leader, and Hon. Lecky Hussein Mustapha (APC, Etsako West I) as Chief Whip.

Agbebaku added that the PDP leadership in the state would still submit its own list of nominees for principal positions. He also noted that his position and that of the Deputy Speaker were not guaranteed in the new leadership arrangement.
