The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Eid ul-Adha celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, on Monday in Abuja.

According to the statement, the declaration underscores the government’s recognition of the religious significance of Eid ul-Adha and its importance to Muslim faithful in Nigeria and across the world.
Tunji-Ojo extended warm felicitations to Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora, describing the celebration as one rooted in sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for humanity.
He also urged Nigerians to use the festive period for prayers and reflection, calling for divine guidance as the country continues its efforts toward peace, stability, and national development.
“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration,” the statement added.
