Liverpool’s Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain was overshadowed by a serious injury to Hugo Ekitike, who was taken off on a stretcher at Anfield in visible pain and tears after clutching his lower right leg
The French forward went down without any contact while making a run onto a through pass around the half-hour mark. He immediately called for medical attention as players from both teams waved for the physios to come on. After several minutes of treatment on the pitch, he was carried off to a subdued standing ovation from the Anfield crowd and replaced by Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot later admitted the situation looked worrying, saying “it looks really bad” and adding that early assessments were “not good at all.”
Subsequent reports from L’Équipe indicate the worst possible outcome, stating that Ekitike has suffered a rupture of the right Achilles tendon. The injury typically requires surgery and a long rehabilitation period that can stretch to around nine months in the case of a full rupture.
The setback is expected to rule the 23-year-old out for the rest of the season and deals a major blow to both Liverpool and France, with his chances of featuring at the upcoming World Cup now effectively over before they could properly begin.
