Stuart Hogg, the former Scottish rugby captain, admitted to sending 200 abusive messages to his estranged wife in a span of just two hours, as part of a five-year pattern of domestic abuse.
The 32-year-old repeatedly harassed Gillian Hogg, the mother of his four children, by shouting, swearing, tracking her movements, and bombarding her with texts.
On the day he was set to stand trial, Hogg appeared in Selkirk Sheriff Court with his parents, Margaret and John, where he pleaded guilty to a single charge of domestic abuse spanning from 2019 to 2024.
The court heard that his behavior caused Mrs. Hogg significant distress, including a panic attack, and that he frequently sent “aggressive and hostile” messages.
Testimony revealed that he would sometimes send over 200 messages in a few hours, drawing attention from people around her.
He also berated her for “not being fun” if she stayed home to care for their children while he went out drinking with friends.
