Nigerian rapper and activist Falz has spoken out following his participation in a protest held in Lagos State, reiterating concerns over rising insecurity and unresolved mass a.bductions across the country.
In a post-protest statement, he described what he witnessed during the demonstration and the broader issues that motivated it.
He said:
“I stepped out yesterday to protest the w0rsenning levels of insecurity and mass abductions across the country. What was shocking to see was that there were allegedly counter-protesters, the majority of whom were women. These women have children.
In case you don’t know why we are out there protesting, the children who were taken from schools in Oyo State still have not been found.
Let me put this into perspective for you. There is a community called Woro in Kwara State. From February 3rd into the 4th of this year, at about 5:30 p.m., insurgents a.ttacked the community. From 5:30 p.m. through the night and into the next morning, they carried out a sustained a.ttack in which many people were massacred. About 200 people were killed. Do you know how many people were taken away? Approximately 176 people were abducted, and they are still in captivity.
It could be your children tomorrow. It could eventually be your children, just in case you don’t realize what is at stake. This is the end of us if we allow this to continue.”
The Lagos protest drew attention to ongoing security concerns, particularly the unresolved k!dnapping of school children and teachers in Oyo State and repeated mass abductions reported in parts of the country.
He also referenced earlier a.ttack on Woro community in Kwara State, where hundreds of residents were reportedly k!lled or abducted during a prolonged assault.
