Speaking in an interview with Oyinmomo TV, Opeyemi shared how her marriage to Olayiwola Abdulwakilu changed the course of her life and career. According to her, she met him during the peak of her acting career and decided to give up the spotlight to build a home with him in London.

“His name came up, and then he came to me. I don’t know what charm he used. He carried me abroad, and I was a lover girl too. That’s how I ended up in London. It’s like he added honey,” she joked. “Epe people have skills; you’ll fall for their tricks.”

She admitted that the fear of a failed marriage led her to block everyone in the Nollywood industry, as she was determined not to become another divorce statistic.

“I was off the scene for over ten years and I want to apologise to my fans. I held my marriage in high esteem, so I blocked everybody’s number in the industry. People say actors don’t have stable homes, but they don’t know what happens behind those relationships. I didn’t want my case to be like that,” she said.

Opeyemi noted that when she finally decided to return to her career, she had to reflect on what went wrong.

“When I finally got myself back, I asked, ‘What happened? Who did I offend?’ I had to plead with myself and said, ‘Let me focus on my career.’ I have two boys who know I love them deeply. I’ve given them every bit of love, every sacrifice. Now, it’s time for me to pursue my own path.”

The actress, who married her husband in 2007, has previously spoken about the ups and downs in their relationship. In 2022, she revealed how they survived moments of serious conflict and near separation but managed to hold their marriage together.

In 2023, she celebrated her son’s graduation from high school and explained her temporary exit from Instagram, saying she was retiring from the platform “with a smile and heart full of gratitude.”

She has also offered advice to young people in relationships, warning them not to rely solely on their emotions.

“Don’t go into any relationship with just your heart and soul. Use your brain. Don’t let the spirit of jagbajantis manipulate you,” she once advised her fans.

Opeyemi’s story reflects the sacrifices many women make for family—and the challenge of reclaiming their personal ambitions.
