The Kaduna State Police Command has stopped a rally organized by supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, which was scheduled to take place in celebration of his birthday

The command issued a stern warning that legal action would be taken against any individual or group that disregards the order.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, intelligence reports indicated that criminal elements intended to infiltrate the rally to incite violence and disrupt public peace.
The police emphasized that all political rallies and gatherings of a political nature remain suspended across Kaduna State until the official commencement of political activities as outlined by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“While the primary elections of political parties are scheduled to hold on the same day as the planned Peter Obi rally, the Kaduna Police Command observes that the rally could overlap with areas designated for party primaries. This poses a significant risk of tension, clashes, and potential breakdown of law and order,” the statement noted.
The police advised the organisers to call off the rally to avoid providing an opportunity for miscreants to hijack the event and threaten public safety.
Reiterating its commitment to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property, the command stated it would not hesitate to take appropriate legal action against any group or individual that violates the directive.
