The Federal Government has declared Thursday, June 12, 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement released on Sunday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians as the nation marks 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.
“June 12 stands as a symbol of our historic journey toward a nation founded on truth, justice, peace, and a secure future,” he said. “The past 26 years reflect our resilience, courage, and renewed hope.”
He added that democracy is a continuous process open to growth and improvement, and reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration’s commitment to democratic principles guided by the will of the people.
According to the minister, the government remains dedicated to upholding democratic values in shaping Nigeria’s political, economic, social, and cultural future.
