The Federal Government has announced Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

In the message, Tunji-Ojo congratulated workers across the country on the occasion and praised their commitment and contribution to national development. He said Nigerian workers continue to play a vital role in driving growth and strengthening the economy.
The minister urged workers to remain dedicated, productive, and patriotic in the discharge of their duties, noting that such values are important for sustainable national progress.
He also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and ensuring a secure environment that supports economic development.
