The Federal Government has approved a significant increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, raising it to ₦77,000, effective July 2024

This change is in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, signed into law by President Bola Tinubu. The new minimum wage stands at ₦70,000.

According to NYSC spokesperson Caroline Embu, the increase reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing corps members’ welfare.

NYSC Director General Brigadier General YD Ahmed had previously advocated for better welfare packages.

The previous monthly allowance was ₦33,000, last updated in 2020. This increase marks a substantial improvement in the lives of corps members, aiming to boost their morale and motivation.

The National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission confirmed the increase in a letter dated September 25, 2024, signed by Chairman Ekpo Nta.
