The Federal Government has slashed the cost of kidney dialysis in federal hospitals by 76%, cutting the price per session from about N50,000 to N12,000
The subsidy, approved by President Bola Tinubu, is aimed at easing the financial burden on thousands of Nigerians living with kidney disease, which often requires several dialysis sessions each week.

Presidential aide Daniel Bwala announced the policy on Monday, describing it as a “landmark intervention” under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to make healthcare more affordable.
He noted that the new rates have already taken effect in ten federal medical centres and teaching hospitals across the six geopolitical zones, including FMC Ebute-Metta, LUTH Lagos, UCH Ibadan, UBTH Benin, and UMTH Maiduguri.
Bwala added that more hospitals will be included before the end of the year to expand access nationwide.
He also recalled that in 2024, Tinubu approved free cesarean sections in federal hospitals, a measure designed to improve maternal healthcare and reduce preventable deaths.
“These interventions show that no Nigerian should be denied life-saving treatment because of cost,” Bwala said.
