The Federal Government has announced the reopening of the 47 unity schools that were closed in November, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring the safety of students and the uninterrupted continuation of education across the country
In a statement on Thursday, spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Education, Folasade Boriowo, confirmed that academic activities have fully resumed following the reinforcement of security measures within and around the affected schools.

“After the strengthening of security architecture within and around the affected schools, academic activities have fully resumed,” the statement read.
It added that students have safely returned to their campuses, with many completing their December academic programs and others successfully finishing examinations.
The ministry assured parents, guardians, and the public that the safety and welfare of students remain a top priority for the Federal Government. It also stated that the government will continue to collaborate with relevant security agencies to maintain stability and restore normalcy in school environments nationwide.
“The Federal Government remains resolute in its responsibility to protect every Nigerian child and to uphold their fundamental right to education in a safe and secure environment,” the statement said.
The closures followed a series of security incidents, including two mass abductions of schoolchildren in Kebbi and Niger states. Experts noted that the shutdown highlighted the government’s recognition of ongoing security challenges and the necessity of precautionary measures to protect students in vulnerable areas.
