The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to hire 3,500 new teachers for Federal Unity Colleges across the country.
This initiative was revealed by Dr. Yusuf Sununu, the Minister of State for Education, during the National Stakeholders’ Forum on Senior Secondary Education, a two-day event focused on enhancing secondary education in Nigeria.
The forum, titled “Revitalising Senior Secondary Education in Nigeria for Global Competitiveness,” aimed to address the current challenges in the education sector. Dr. Sununu explained that the recruitment, done in collaboration with various government agencies, is expected to boost the quality of education.
“I assure you that the Ministry is collaborating with the Office of the Head of Service, the Federal Civil Service Commission, and other relevant government organs to recruit 3,500 teaching staff for our federal government colleges nationwide. This will enhance the quality of education. Additionally, the Ministry has organised extensive training and retraining for all staff in schools,” he stated.
He also mentioned that the Ministry of Education is investing heavily in staff training and has already trained over 1,000 educators in educational technology. Furthermore, more than 53 vocational training centers have been established to support youth skill development, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s vision.
Additionally, the government has approved the construction of 50 new model schools to further elevate educational standards.
