The Federal Government has confirmed plans to sell 753 housing units seized from former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele

The estate, located in the Guzape area of Abuja, spans over 150,000 square metres and is believed to be the largest single asset recovery by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) since its establishment in 2003.

The properties were forfeited to the government in December 2024 following a court order secured by the EFCC.

According to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, the buildings will undergo structural assessment and completion before being made available for purchase by Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Housing Portal.

The initiative aims to ensure that low- and middle-income earners have access to decent housing, while also promoting transparency and accountability in the management of recovered assets.

EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede, during a recent inspection of the estate, emphasized the commission’s commitment to recovering looted assets and redirecting them for the benefit of the public.

However, in April 2025, Emefiele filed a motion at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, challenging the forfeiture. He alleged that the EFCC concealed the proceedings from him despite ongoing legal engagements with the commission.

Despite the legal challenge, the government says preparations for the public sale of the estate are underway, in line with its broader anti-corruption and housing reform agenda.
