Israeli forces reportedly killed five Palestinians, including two women, during an early morning operation in a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday.
The incident happened when Israeli troops entered the Tulkarem camp in the northern part of the West Bank, according to Faisal Salamah, who leads the camp’s popular committee. He told AFP about the deaths, and an activist at the camp confirmed the number. The Israeli military has not yet commented on the situation.
The Palestinian Red Crescent, a humanitarian organization, said they treated a 30-year-old man who had bullet wounds in his abdomen, thigh, and hand. They also helped three women who were hurt by shrapnel, with one woman injured in her eye.
The Palestinian official news agency Wafa reported that more than 25 military vehicles, including bulldozers, entered the camp. The bulldozers pushed rubble into the narrow streets, blocking them off.
Tulkarem is known as a place where Palestinian militant groups are active, and Israeli forces often conduct operations there.
The situation in the West Bank has become more violent since October 7, when Hamas attacked Israel and started a war in Gaza.
The Palestinian health ministry reports that at least 579 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers or settlers in the West Bank since the conflict began.
