The incident involved a Cessna 172 aircraft operated by Skypower Express, which reportedly somersaulted on the runway.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) confirmed that the plane, registered as 5N-ASR, had departed Kaduna International Airport for Port Harcourt International Airport before the crew declared an in-flight emergency and diverted to Owerri.

She added that airport emergency services responded quickly, there was no post-crash fire, and other airport operations continued uninterrupted.

Efforts are now underway to remove the damaged aircraft from the site for a detailed assessment of the wreckage.
Meanwhile, NSIB Director-General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., confirmed that the bureau has launched its investigation, expressing relief that no lives were lost. He stated that the agency is coordinating with relevant authorities and promised further updates as the probe continues.
