FC Girondins de Bordeaux has made the difficult decision to abandon its professional status after FSG withdrew from takeover negotiations, leaving the club without a financial backup to remain in professional football
Following their administrative relegation, Bordeaux will release all professional players from their contracts and close their renowned academy.
Despite a potential two-year grace period to retain professional status in the third tier, the club has chosen to relinquish its status, acquired in 1937.
This decision comes before the August 1st audition to determine their division placement.
The club’s budget for the Championnat National has yet to be approved, and this move aims to alleviate salary cap pressures.
