The Ghana Police Service has announced that a notorious serial k!ller has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the High Court in Wa after pleading guilty to multiple murders across several communities
In a statement released by its Public Affairs Unit, the police said the judgment was handed down on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. The release was signed by Mr. Francis Yiribaire, DCOP and Regional Police Commander for the Upper West Region.

“On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the High Court in Wa sentenced Shariff Abdulai, alias ‘Cristos,’ to life imprisonment for the murder of Issah Yahaya and twenty-two (22) others,” the statement read.
The police detailed that Abdulai admitted to killing sixteen people in Wa, five in Bole, and one each in Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi, bringing an end to months of investigations that had rattled communities in the Upper West and Savannah regions.
The breakthrough came following sustained intelligence-led operations. “On October 6, 2025, Police arrested the convict following thorough investigations,” the statement noted.
After his arrest, Abdulai was processed through the courts and arraigned before the High Court on March 4, 2026, following committal from the District Magistrate Court. He pleaded guilty simpliciter to the charges with legal representation.
Delivering judgment, Justice Osei-Wusu Antwi handed down the maximum penalty allowed by law. “Upon his own plea, the presiding Judge sentenced him to life imprisonment in hard labour,” the police confirmed.
Authorities said Abdulai will serve his sentence at Nsawam Medium Security Prison, bringing closure to one of the most shocking criminal cases in the region in recent years.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the police emphasized its resolve to fight crime and protect law-abiding citizens. “The Command reaffirms its unwavering commitment to uphold the rule of law and will not relent in ensuring a safe and secure environment for residents,” the statement concluded.
